California Wildflowers 2026

In March, I had the pleasure of visiting Central California — in the areas of Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo, Montana de Oro State Park, and Carrizo Plain. After a couple of days of exploration, I made by way up the coast through the Pacific Coast Highway and Big Sur. Check out the shots and the drone work below: My first stop was Carrizo Plain. While I had seen more lush displays of varied color in my 2023 trip, there were still beautiful pockets of yellow and purple that nicely juxtaposed the mountains and ridges. Was also cool to see the wildflowers growing around the San Andreas fault (check the drone video for that view).

Next on my list was Montana De Oro to check out the poppies over the Pacific Ocean. I revisited a bunch of places from before and it was as beautiful as ever. I then traversed down to the beach to find an amazing sea cave with a sinkhole ceiling, colorful sandstone formations, and sea anemones juxtaposing the ferocious Pacific Ocean. I then visited Big Sur on the way up the coast to San Francisco, and found a small beach filled with amazing life, rocks, and sea shells. And of course this view (music credit to John Zay Maschio):

On this trip I got a bunch of videos of the areas I traveled to post to insta; here they are for you to feel you were right there with me. This section is a little buggy, try tapping it a few times if it doesn’t work. Until next time…
